What to Expect

While on property you’ll be able to experience the richness of life in the tropics. From the cooing of the doves at dawn to falling asleep to the rustling of palm fronds in the evening breezes to the patter of a rain shower on the tin roof. Let us help you come prepared, below are a few things that you should know before experiencing our island luxury resort for the first time.

Partners in Paradise

MBR is home to hundreds of species of flora and fauna that will make your visit memorable. Take note of what you see during your stay: birds, iguanas, raccoons, geckos, and crocodiles are just a few animals on property. We also share the same habitat with insects that make the tropics (and MBR) their home. We are committed to keeping this valuable ecosystem in balance and do our best to reduce the population of some less pleasant species. Our eco-sensitive program will not eliminate all pests as they are a much needed partner in this paradise, so please take a moment to enjoy the diversity of our surrounding environment.

Carting Around

Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club is set on over 16 acres, you’ll probably want a golf cart (that you can rent onsite at Wheels) also to explore San Pedro. This is a fun, unique alternative to traditional transportation and is an easy way to explore the island. Unlike many other countries, you can feel safe and at ease on our island roads— just watch out for pedestrians and the occasional crab crossing the road. There are no sidewalks in San Pedro so be mindful of those traveling on scooters, bikes, or on other golf carts.

Be Blessed

Local lore considers that you are being blessed if the local gecko comes to say hello in your home – so perhaps give a namaste back when you hear their distinctive, three click call – as they are a great ally in reducing mosquito populations on property.

Travel Light

Don’t overpack. MBR provides luxury bath amenities, including Malin & Goetz shampoo, conditioner and rum body wash – after all we’re in the home of sugar cane fields! Also available for your use are hair dryers. In the full service rooms, your kitchen will come fully stocked with plates, silverware, paper towels, coffee, cream and sugar. Pharmacies and grocery stores can be found in San Pedro town, and ask us about grocery stocking service prior to arrival.

It's a jungle baby

As beautiful and inviting Belize can be, the presence of bugs is a fact of life. While harmless, mosquitos and no see ups can be very active in the jungle at dusk. Given their role in the local ecosystem, we do our best to reduce and contain the populations using eco-sensitive techniques and encourage guests to use a repellent. While we supply plenty on property, be sure to bring your favorite. The Belize sun can be very intense, especially when you’re on or near the water, so consider hats, cover-ups and lotions to keep you comfortable.

Easy Breezy

You’re in a tropical paradise, and its hot and humid day and night. The less clothes you wear and the lighter weight they are, the better. A lot of the mainland excursions include some hiking and wading through streams or cave floating. Having proper shoes (water safe or hiking shoes) will go a long way, .
