What to Expect at Belize Culture Night

This one-of-a-kind experience consists of a delicious Mayan buffet every Monday at Verandah Restaurant in Mahogany Bay Village. The buffet includes but not limited to all-you-can-eat appetizers, traditional tortilla soup with avocado, feta cheese, and fried tortilla strips; a pupusa station, a taco station with handmade corn tortillas, and freshly-made horchata (vegetarian and gluten-free options are available). You’ll get all of this for only $35 USD!

Note: This buffet is half-price for children five years and younger. Plus, there’s a 50% discount for Belizean locals with valid ID.

The History of Belizean Culture

San Pedro mostly consists of Spanish and Mestizo roots, as opposed to the south of Belize, where the descendants are mostly from the Garifuna. San Pedranos are mostly descendants of immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. Many of these countries were part of the Mayan empire, so a lot of San Pedranos have Mayan blood as well.

The goal of Mestizo Night is to showcase the Mestizo culture our island is known for. The servers at Verandah Restaurant wear authentic Mestizo dresses and guests can observe hand-making pupusas, tacos, tortilla soup, and traditional appetizers.
