The History of Belizean Culture

San Pedro mostly consists of Spanish and Mestizo roots, as opposed to the south of Belize, where the descendants are mostly from the Garifuna. San Pedranos are mostly descendants of immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. Many of these countries were part of the Mayan empire, so a lot of San Pedranos have Mayan blood as well.

The goal of Belize Culture Night is to showcase the Mestizo culture our island is known for. The servers at Verandah Restaurant wear authentic Mestizo dresses and guests can observe hand-making pupusas, tacos, tortilla soup, and traditional appetizers.
