Help Us Support Belize Bookworms
Would you like to make a difference in the lives of children in Belize? Do you believe in the power of reading? If so, please consider donating to Belize Bookworms! This 501(c) nonprofit organization’s mission is to give the gift of reading to children throughout Ambergris Caye, Belize.
Belize Bookworms was founded in 2019 by a San Pedro resident, and a huge bookworm herself, Jeanna Barrett. Jeanna started Belize Bookworms in order to give more Belizean children access to books and the opportunity to read. After all, books are magic!
Belize Bookworms is part of a larger global nonprofit called Little Free Library. This organization promotes neighborhood book exchanges, usually in the form of a public bookcase. More than 90,000 public book exchanges are registered with Little Free Libraries. At some point, you might have come across one near you without even realizing it!
Ambergris Caye doesn’t have any stores where one may purchase new books, and has only one used bookstore plus a very small library with limited books. This makes it very challenging for island youngsters to make reading a regular part of their childhood. But with the help of Belize Bookworms and the spirit of the local community, there are now three Little Free Libraries on the island of Ambergris Caye! Thanks also to the craftsmanship of local island carpenter, Roni Perez, Belize Bookworms has placed these three libraries throughout different neighborhoods in San Pedro: Escalante/DFC, Boca Del Rio, and San Mateo.
Now all they need is your help. It's crucial to have a constant stream of books coming into Belize to fill these libraries. A local freight company, Belize Freight, extends a discounted shipping and duty rate to Belize Bookworms to get the books down to Belize as affordably as possible. Belize Bookworms counts on the generosity of friends, family, and book lovers in North America and beyond to purchase and send books to their convenient freight forwarder warehouse in Florida.
Please consider purchasing new or used books online from Books4School, Amazon, or from your local thrift store and shipping them to Belize Bookworms' Florida address. Alternatively, if you would like to make a cash donation via Paypal, you can be assured that 100% of it will go toward the purchase of books and toward shipping costs to import them into Belize.
Just one book can make a difference! Thank you for your support.
