The Great House is the heart of Mahogany Bay Village’s food scene.

The Great House is the heart of Mahogany Bay Village in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. This opulent building embodies an impressive 22,000 sq ft footprint on the shores of Mahogany Bay. The building aesthetic celebrates the grandeur of the country’s British Colonial roots. Built with sustainably forested Belizean hardwoods, it features high ceilings, mahogany shutters, and tropical greenery indoor and out. The wide-open verandas maximize the cooling effects of the eastern trade winds off the Caribbean Sea.

The Great House is home to the welcome desk for guests of Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club, Curio Collection by Hilton, as well as two renowned restaurants, a classic cocktail lobby bar, and abundant upstairs event spaces for all sizes of conferences and parties.


The brand new state-of-the-art kitchen handles around-the-clock food service and preparation for Mahogany Bay Village. This includes both in-house restaurants, in-room dining, special event catering, as well as Rum+Bean coffee bar and Sticky Fingers ice cream and donuts. Needless to say, the Mahogany Bay kitchen team of 20 surely has their work cut out for them!

Dining at Mahogany Bay Village ranges from quick bites at the local food shacks at The Village Green, to upscale dining at The Verandah and Shaken.

The Verandah Restaurant

The Verandah, one of two restaurants at The Great House, is a fine dining establishment that serves daily breakfast and dinner to both resort guests and local island residents and visitors. Guests dine in a gorgeous indoor/outdoor setting with water views of Mahogany Bay. For lunch, see the section on Shaken, below.


Start the day right with a power smoothie at The Verandah!


The Verandah’s cuisine offers Caribbean classics, Belizean staples, and American favorites with an island flair.

In the morning, a full breakfast and smoothie menu will make sure you start your day off energized for the Belizean adventure that lies ahead. Choose from a dozen breakfast options including huevos rancheros, breakfast burrito, stuffed fry jacks, coconut banana pancakes, and even avocado toast!

By evening, The Verandah comes alive with island guests and residents enjoying dinner in the picturesque dining room. On mild nights diners assemble by candlelight on the breezy wrap-around porch.

Dinnertime entree options currently include a lobster tail, catch of the day fish, steak, pork chops, stewed chicken, and a seafood trio. For appetizers, don’t miss the seafood fritters and the local salad — Belizean-grown lettuce, mango, avocado, jicama, with roasted coconut and a ginger lime dressing — plus a choice of grilled chicken or shrimp.

Pair your dinner selection with a fine Californian wine or choose from over a dozen inspired craft cocktails celebrating local Belizean ingredients and liqueurs. Try Beth’s favorite evening drink, Queen Bee, made with gin, watermelon juice, lemon, hibiscus honey, and mint! (Beth Clifford, MBV Owner and Developer.)

For dessert, a scoop of the house-made ice cream or sorbet is a must! Also the Mahogany Brownies are a crowd-pleaser, made from bean-to-bar cacao grown in southern Belize and processed on-site at Mahogany Chocolate boutique chocolatier.

Breakfast 7am  10:30am: The Verandah serves a la carte breakfast in the main dining room and open-air terrace every morning.

Sunday Brunch 10am — 2pm: The Verandah invites you to enjoy a greatly expanded brunch menu every Sunday, complete with both breakfast and lunch options as well as mimosa and bloody mary specials!

Dinner 5:30pm  9:30pm: The full dinner and cocktail menu is available nightly in the main dining room. For a more casual dinner with happy hour specials and shareable dishes like chicken wings, pizzas, burgers, and tacos, visit The Verandah’s adjacent outdoor counterpart, Shaken.

As morning turns toward afternoon, Mahogany Bay patrons assemble outdoors in the airy bar and lounge at Shaken. The 180º pool and bay views are unbeatable on the shaded deck surrounded by tropical greens. Here, guests and islanders enjoy an exciting selection of cuisine with a little something for everyone: ceviche, lobster rolls, fish & chips, burgers, tacos, empanadas, flatbread pizzas, and fresh salads.

Dessert features frozen paletas (Mexican-style fruit popsicles), frozen key lime pie, and coconut tres leches cake with homemade rum raisin ice cream!

For an al fresco dining experience day or night, Shaken is the more casual option for grabbing celebratory cocktails and smaller plates to share. The following nightly specials are local favorites, with happy hour starting every day at 5:30pm!



Daily Happy Hour 5:30pm — 7:30pm: Shaken offers an everyday sunset happy hour with 2 for 1 local drink specials and complimentary bar snacks.

2 x 1 Burger Tuesdays 5pm — 9pm: Believe the hype. For one of the BEST BURGER experiences of your life, head down to Shaken for 2×1 Burger Tuesdays! Perfectly seasoned fresh beef, a soft sesame bun, house-made spiced tomato jam, chef’s secret savory mayo, cheddar + BLT — this is everything a burger should be. And the fries are pretty incredible too! Come and taste for yourself, bring a friend! Enjoy 2 for the price of 1 on Tuesday evenings only!

Wing Wednesdays 5pm — 9pm: On Wednesdays, Shaken offers beer specials and “Dollar Wings” ($2BZD each) with a spectrum of six savory sauces for dipping!

Executive Chef Cesar Gomez heads the central kitchen at Mahogany Bay Village with 18 years of professional cooking experience in Belize. Cesar has worked at some of the finest hotels and resorts throughout Belize and has been a part of the Mahogany Bay since early 2018. Cesar recently made headlines representing Mahogany Bay Resort with his 2nd place win at the Taste of Belize competition in Belize City.

The Mahogany Bay kitchen staff is made up of 20 hard-working team members, one of whom is Alex Rodriguez, (third from right) who was featured in our MBV blog last year.
