New Urbanism Debuts on Ambergris Caye
Mahogany Bay Village was thoughtfully designed based on the principles of New Urbanism — a nest of urban planning ideals that promote self-sustaining villages that are efficient, walkable, and filled with an array of small businesses and services. These are villages that provide authentic experiences that are meant to enhance the potential of residents’ and visitors’ everyday lives. These are neighborhoods that are diverse in conveniences, with ample green spaces. The homes in a New Urbanist community are framed with landscape design in harmony with nature, they celebrate the architectural history of the area, and are designed to symbiotically endure the surrounding geography and climate throughout time.
We are proud to be home to over 15 innovative businesses and we’re currently implementing plans to foster the development of a dozen more through outreach work in the local community. These businesses will ensure that our village offers one of the most spectacular epicenters of island life, with modern services and dynamic goods that complement San Pedro Town’s roots. Mahogany Bay Village also hosts a bimonthly Market Day the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month in the resort village’s retail downtown. These markets are just one of many initiatives that Mahogany Bay Village has enacted to create a joyous and bustling new community hub for the island of Ambergris Caye.
The farmers markets feature over a dozen numerous local homemade goods, crafts, produce, and baked goods. Mahogany Bay Village’s resident aquaponics greenhouse, Ambergreens, sells their freshest morning harvest, and future resident delicatessen, The Farm House Deli, sells their delectable home-cured meats, cheeses, wholesome breads, and other specialty food and drinks.

Providing a selection of specialty foods and original creations made by the local “mom and pop” expat and Belizean community members is a wonderful way to promote neighborhood small business, while expanding the variety of goods available on Ambergris Caye.
New Urbanist neighborhoods also include lots of thoughtfully curated green spaces throughout. With the help of tropical landscaping and heat-tolerant grass, Mahogany Bay Village will boast numerous parks including The Village Green — a spacious grassy area downtown that will host pop-up shops, street food vendors, a stage for concerts and events, and the island’s best people-watching!
Mahogany Bay Village’s Curio Collection by Hilton hotel will soon celebrate their 2017 grand opening, in the meantime the village downtown’s multiple retail stores are open daily to the public.
